Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) in London, was raised by the mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father left her family. When she was a young girl, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford was attracted to acting in her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, however, she decided after one week that she was a poor choice for this school. Ford then applied for a spot at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford could graduate in 1993. She made her television debut on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate first appeared on television in the year 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Apart from her regular theatre work, Tate joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up comedy style that she started adding to her repertoire in 1996, quickly gained her admiration.
